WELCOME ... to my fundraising blog!

Dear all,

When I went on my trip through Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam last year, I visited Ingrid from the Dutch Thai Child Development Foundation (www.thaichilddevelopment.org) in Phato (Chumphon province, between Ranong and LangSuan) in Southern Thailand.

The foundation's aim is very simple: to help children in their development to become strong, healthy, happy and honest individuals by working on a small scale personal basis, supporting the children in various ways.

The Children's Home for example offers a home and loving family life for children whose parents cannot take care of them.

The foundation also supports several local families who have financial problems and cannot provide their children with nutritious food or afford an education.

From end of August until October (depending on the flight) I will be based in one of the TCDF's educational programmes, volunteering in a small village school in the jungle teaching the children English.

I truly believe in the foundation's good work as I saw it with my own eyes.
Apart from the good the TCDF does in interaction and with the appreciation of the locals, not from above like several other NGOs, they do not try to make a profit of the volunteers who come to spend some time in Thailand and get involved.

Because of my personal experiences I decided to go fundraising for the project before I am going to Phato.
I talked to Ingrid and the teachers at the school I will be based at (only 60 children!): what they really need are new books and shelves for their little library. Both, for us Europeans, is very cheap in the country - a schoolbook might not be more than 1 Pound/1,50 Euros, a "Harry Potter" maybe 6 Pound/9 Euros etc. Any spare donated money will go directly to the Thai Child Development Foundation to support their general work in Thailand.

If you are interested in donating, please drop me a line!

I am glad to provide you with any additional information you need and honestly appreciate your participation a lot!
Please feel free to mail me at juliabrinkmann[at]gmx.net

Thanks a lot!!!
Julia :)

Thanks for the info, have no idea you went to Thailand and Vienam. I have to say what a trip you had! Just you mentioned participation, in what sense could we participate?

" YALA, Thailand (AFP) - Three Muslim men were gunned down, while separatist insurgents set fire to 13 schools in Thailand’s Muslim-majority south, police said Thursday.

Two men were killed in separate drive-by shootings late Wednesday and mid-day Thursday in Yala, one of three insurgency-hit provinces bordering Malaysia, police said.

And in neighbouring Narathiwat, gunmen killed a 54-year-old local government official in an ambush on his motorcycle early Thursday, police said.

A bomb also exploded near a Narathiwat vocational college, injuring a soldier.

The blast came after insurgents torched 13 schools in almost simultaneous arson attacks in Yala and Pattani provinces late Wednesday, police added.

The latest arson attacks brought the number of schools torched by rebels to 200, while 77 teachers have been killed in the three-year insurgency, according to education officials in the region."

I hope you teach in a peaceful region, where radicals don`t play a role

Yes, the problematic region is in the far South at the border to Malaysia. I am more up North (about 350km), a bit further than Phuket and Samui.
